South London R&B/Soul artist DWY releases new song “Pull Up”

South London singer/songwriter/producer DWY debuts a soulful new single “Pull Up” from his upcoming Self Contained mixtape available September 23. Produced by Mell Beats and Dennis Mercier, the R&B crooner is caught between entropy and jealousy when asking a former lover to pull up once more as he conveniently reminisces only about the good times in their relationship.

DWY explains, “This is my ego standing at the front of my mind saying ‘f*ck who you’re with, I’m that n****…and I’ll always be’. Sometimes the devil on your shoulder wins and puts the angel in a headlock. It’s about sending that text at 1:39am when you know she’s moved on, but just gotta know. The intersection of vulnerability and ego are in a standoff.”

Self-Contained released singles include the alluring “Badu Feels” and the self-reflecting romantic slow-jam “Solid Gold.” A music video is available for “Badu Feels” here. Self-Contained will follow DWY’s critically-acclaimed debut mixtape 8-Bit Memories released in 2021. Atwood Magazine described it as a “dreamy, soul-stirring debut” that “showcases the scope and breadth of a fast-emerging, socially-conscious artist who deserves a space on everyone’s radar.”

“I really want to bring back the rawness of the R&B mixtape with Self-Contained,” reveals DWY. “On 8-Bit I felt I was hiding in the music a bit, so on this mixtape I stripped it all back. I’m way more confident in my voice than I was before, my voice is defo front and center. I produced or co-produced almost every song and really feel it sounds like me more than before. I wrote from a much rawer and visceral place this time around, I guess I had a lot of time to think and search my feelings about my relationships and my own depression.”

DWY was named a ‘10 British R&B/Soul Artists To Watch in 2020’ (Complex UK) who describes his sound as “understated yet deceptively addictive thanks to his knack for catchy, hypnotic melodies.” Inspired by Frank Ocean, James Blake and Kanye West’s “life-changing” album 808’s & Heartbreak, he focuses on human connection and the human experience. An avid storyteller, DWY wrote and starred in the short film 8-Bit Memories, directed by Quran Squire and produced by Radical Media. The film was premiered by Variety Magazine who described the film as having a “gritty fantastical feel with magical realism.”
