Chicago – (December 6) –The Washington Park Area Homeowners Association-NFP (WPAHOA) officially launches its Healthy Sprouts™ Initiative which is a fight against the youth obesity crisis and obesity at large in urban American food deserts.  The WPAHOA is an Illinois Not-for-Profit corporation with 501(c) (3) tax exempt status and is not the typical HOA but one that is charged with bridging the socioeconomic gap by improving the quality of life of residents. www.wpahoa.org

Healthy Sprouts™ stewards (youth participants) with parental supervision register to help infuse their community with healthy food options while earning points toward prizes that promote active healthy lifestyles, i.e. bicycles, sports equipment, skate boards, etc.  Healthy Sprout Stewards™ are encouraged to recommend  frequent (weekly, biweekly or monthly) delivery of our fresh organic fruit and vegetable boxes to their block clubs, businesses, friends, neighbors, senior facilities, houses of worship and other community organizations as to provide convenient service and to collect more points toward their prizes.

WPAHOA –Healthy Sprouts™ Program Founder, Executive Initiatives Director and Creator Pasha Hunt-Golliday’s platform will address the issues and create solutions for urban food deserts.  The assortment of prizes awarded not only promotes active and healthy lifestyles, but also community stewardship.

First Lady Michelle Obama is also tackling the dilemma of food desert communities and funding cuts of physical education programs with her Let’s Move campaign. With the Healthy Sprouts™  program, youth with parent participation will also make a hugely positive impact on obesity by infusing their communities with healthy food options, delivered  directly to resident’s homes, 52 weeks a year.

Pasha Hunt-Golliday explains how Healthy Sprouts™ will remedy the national youth obesity crisis:

“We stand ready to launch the WPAHOA-Healthy Sprouts™  initiative which is our fight against youth obesity in urban food dessert communities. Healthy Sprouts™ will give youth an early start on a healthy life by infusing communities with healthy food options delivered directly to resident’s homes. Healthy Sprout™ Stewards with parent participation will be rewarded for their community service with cool prizes that promote active and healthy lifestyles. I can think of no better combination for an initiative to combat obesity in urban food desserts or a better way to enrich our youth’s lives in the formative years than community stewardship and rewards that promote active healthy lifestyles. With adequate capacity and support I predict the Healthy Sprouts™ initiative will go national in the near future.”
