John Blu talks with Mari about his rising career.
John Blu Interview:
How did you get into the music industry?
John Blu: I started at the young age of 5 years old. I stared playing the piano, drums, then producing. Then I started working on my own project. My very first album at 13 and everything just went from there.
What is the Concept behind the phrase “Single Makers”?
John Blu: Single Makers is a group of local artists that come together to network, create and perfect their craft as artist.
How do you feel about the success of “In Love With Your Booty”?
John Blu: It’s really a blessing. All of the hard work paid off, and I am very appreciative of all the radio support. The success was just what I prayed for.
What made you choose “In Love With Your Booty” as your first single to be released?
John Blu: It stemmed from one of my other songs “NickNames” that I would perform. “NickNames” is more of a chill song. But then I started to do snippets of “In Love With Your Booty” and the women would go crazy. So a lot of the DJ’s were like why are you sitting on that joint, you need to release that club bagger. So from then on my team and I began working on the single release of “In Love With Your Booty”.
Congrats to you for having over 4mil views on World Hip.com. How does that make you feel?
John Blu: Thank you, Umm it makes me feel real good.
How do you feel about being signed to Jive?
John Blu: Wow, it is really a great opportunity. And I am very grateful.
When and what is the next single release?
John Blu: The end of September and the label is still trying to decide what single.
Which single would you like to be released?
John Blu: I would like “No Make-Up” or “Cologne” to be released next.
What is the best thing about being an artist?
John Blu: I love doing what I love! Music gives me the opportunity to share my creativity with the world.
Tell me about your most memorable concert:
John Blu: In Oklahoma I brought a female to stage, got on one knee, had a ring in my hand, and all the ladies were like what is he about to do. I then tell the lady “I’m not in love with you but I’m in love with your booty”. The women just went crazy! That was a really concert that day,
Who would you like to work with right now in the industry?
John Blu: I would like to work with everybody; I don’t like to limit myself.
Right now in your iPod who are you listening to?
John Blu: Well, most definitely Jon Blu ha ha ha. Nah for real right now I’m playing Drake and Jazmine Sullivan. And on the gospel tip; J Moss and Karen Clarke.
What is the number one thing you hope people get out of your music?
John Blu: I want people to know Jon Blu is not going to be a one hit wonder. I want to be known for releasing nothing but hit singles. I want to make a cd that you can play right thru with skipping to the next track. Lastly, I want to let everyone know I’m here to stay around.
