Kevin Hill aka FlyNerd is more than a ” FLY NERD”, he is a stylist, designer and guru of all things fashionable. Working with Chrisette Michelle and Omarion among other celebrity notables. His brand is creativity and edgy and makes you want more. I got a chance to sit down with the SUPER talented Mr. Hill and talk about his upcoming projects, and what inspires him most, and what role FASHION plays in his life.
What is FlyNerdOnline.com and how did you come up with the concept?
I wanted it to be an original idea FlyNerdOnline.com is an Oasis of activity, shopping, talking, I wanted it to be an addiction. The name “FlyNerd” was giving to me by a friend, who thought I looked like a Nerd at work, but was always fly, so he gave me the name FlyNerd.
What steps did you take to get started ?
I always wanted to work for myself, so I saved saved and saved some more, to start my own line and website. I marketed myself, to put my name out there.
What was the creative process behind your line HAK?
The name HAK originated from being called a FlyNerd, nerds like to “HAK” into things, and H.A.K are my intinals reversed. I wanted to “HAK” into the fashion industry, make pieces that are interesting and original.
What advise do you have for aspiring designers and stylists?
The best advice I have for aspiring designers and stylist are to believe in yourself and stay true to yourself at all times.
What does fashion mean to you?
To me fashion means self presentation being a piece of art, loving yourself and dressing how you feel. Fashion makes you feel good.
What are some of your favorite trends right now?
Favorite trend for men right now is the nautical look, blues, turquoise, reds and incorporating a little femininity into there looks. For women I loving the oversize look, Mc Hammer pants, Blazers and tanks with simple jewelry. Also the masculine look is my favorite at the moment.
Where do you see yourself next year?
Next year I see myself happy, free, and designing clothes for people who aren’t afraid to dress. I see my clothing line on my website FlyNerdOnline,and living somewhere creative, where I can be creative and it’s cool, possibly New York. Also next year I will be helping Chrisette Michelle evolve her style.
